USA Today Talks Episode II Wed, Jun 07, 00 08:57:02 AM EDT Andy Seiler has a new article online in the latest edition of USA TODAY talking about Episode II. Here's a clip: 'Star Wars' filming moves into hyperdrive George Lucas begins shooting Episode II of the Star Wars saga (actually the fifth Star Wars film) this month, and he and his crew will waste little time, says Fox spokesman Tom Sherak. "They finish shooting in September in Australia, right before the Olympics," Sherak says. In addition to the Fox Studio in Sydney, where the bulk of the footage will be shot, Lucas will be filming in Tataouine in the Tunisian desert. Lucas first directed in Tataouine in 1977, which is 300 miles south of Tunis, for the first Star Wars movie. He named Tatooine, Luke Skywalker's arid home planet, after Tataouine, which has become a tourist attraction, thanks to all the attention. The article continues to talk about them denying the Jimmy Smits' spokesperson denying any involvement with Episode II and also a bit about the MTV movie awards and Lucas quote to a UKTV interviewer yesterday on the Big Breakfast show. Thanks to Emperor Sebulba for the link first. TV Guide talks Hayden Christensen Tue, Jun 06, 00 05:45:06 PM EDT Obi-Man sent the following in: In TV Guide for the week of June 10-16, Hayden Christensen is mentioned in the Hollywood Grapevine section. Here is the short article: You've probably heard there's a new Anakin Skywaker/Darth Vader tearing up the galaxy. Hayden Christensen beat out all other Hollywood hunks (even Leo DiCaprio was once interested) to land the lead in the next two Star Wars flicks. The 19-year-old already knows a little about the dark side, having played the dope-smoking , acid-dropping teen molested by his stepmom on Fox Family Channel's Higher Ground, a drama about troubled kids. Insiders day he's the most popular kid on the show-- which has not yet been renewed for next year-- drawing 1000 e-mails a week, mainly from kids. The next Star Wars begins shooting later this month. It sounds to this Star Wars fan that Hayden isn't as "unknown" as a lot of people have been saying. Digital Filming Discussion Tue, Jun 06, 00 12:49:36 PM EDT PostIndustry.com announced today their new digital cinema discussion group and one of the topic to be discussed will be the digital filming of Episode 2: the forum tackles the advantages and problems offered by D-cinema, offering opinions and information for those tempted or put off by the new technology. With George Lucas making "Star Wars -- Episode 2" digitally from start to finish... this topic is bound to be one of the hot-button issues of the months and years ahead. Thanks to Helene for the alert! Hugh Quarshie declines Episode II role? Tue, Jun 06, 00 07:34:53 AM EDT Mads Bluhm of The Danish Star Wars Association sent us the following (unconfirmed) news: A source very close to Hugh Quarshie has told The Danish Star Wars Association that he won't repeat his role as Captain Panaka in the upcoming Episode II. It is allegedly problems surrounding the his contract which has prompted the charismatic actor to turn down Lucas Film. Hugh Quarshie stated in his own humoristic fashion: "They gave me an offer I had to refuse". BIG Episode II news! Guess who's back? Tue, Jun 06, 00 04:05:46 AM EDT Jon sent in this report about the UK TV program "The Big Breakfast". The report contains some VERY COOL news, but careful for spoilers! Highlight to read: "The Big Breakfast (UK TV programme) collared George Lucas and Samuel L. Jackson on their way to a premiere/awards ceremony and managed brief interviews/soundbites with both. Jackson gave a brief interview - stating that he starts work July 6th and that 'he has a real big fight scene'. George Lucas laughed and said that Sam probably knew more about it than him since he hadn't been to Australia yet but that he'd seen some stuff on tape. He also confirmed (again) that Darth Maul wouldn't be appearing but THAT RAY PARK WOULD BE IN THE FILM IN ANOTHER ROLE!" Now we haven't heard the original interview, so it might be that Lucas meant that Ray Park was involved in the movie on another level (off-screen), but it's also possible that Lucas meant that we'll see Ray Park back on the screen! UPDATE - MORE CONFIRMATION: we received some more reports about the Big Breakfast show. Ian sent in some exact quotes: [highlight to read]: Lucas, when asked about Samuel's fight scene: "He'd know more about it than me, he's actually done the fight, I just get to see it on tape, I've not been over to Australia yet." (According to 'Onks', Lucas is talking about a video of Samuel practicing the fight scenes.) When asked about a return by Darth Maul, he said: 'Not a chance, he's gone, out of it. Ray will be in the movie but not as Darth Maul.' So there you have it! Cool news, don't you think? WebTV readers click here for SPOILERS SPY REPORT: Casting Extras Tue, Jun 06, 00 01:40:45 AM EDT So what's going on in Australia now? Aside from the 24-7 set construction work confirmed by the Official Site last week, we're hearing rumblings of some extra casting as well. An insider close to the production sends this report this morning for your approval: She said that like five girls were selected as extras for Episode II, one of which will possibly have a line in the upcoming film. She was hesitant in telling me names, but she is thrilled for them all. Again, they were cast as Jedi - that's about all they know. She also said that although there is some info being leaked out now, that they are still very tight-lipped. There's even a buzz around here that the movie's running time may be slightly longer than the traditional film, possibly between a 2 1/2 - 3 hour flick. The reason? I was told because there was "a lot of explaining to do". And in addition to this report, we've also been told by a very reliable source that another major casting announcement is due soon ... who it is we don't know, but expect something within the week or early next at the latest. | This site is under construction | ||||||||||||||||||
